Our Kaupapa Medical Centre in Masterton is a kaupapa Māori–led, Very Low Cost Access (VLCA) practice, grounded in manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and kaitiakitanga. The role

Family Start Community Health Worker (fixed term)
Whaiora – Wairarapa
40 hours per week (12-month fixed term)
Whaiora is seeking a passionate and motivated Kaimahi to join our established Family Start team, which includes experienced Family Start workers and a Social Worker.
This is a fixed-term position created in response to an increased demand for Family Start services within our community and provides an opportunity to join a supportive team making a real difference for whānau.
Family Start is an intensive home visiting programme that supports whānau to give their tamariki the best possible start in life. Working alongside families from pregnancy through the early years, you will help strengthen parenting skills, promote child wellbeing, and support whānau to achieve their goals.
About the Role
As part of our Family Start team, you will:
- Work alongside whānau from pregnancy through to their child’s early years
- Provide regular home visits and practical support
- Develop and implement individual family plans with whānau
- Support parents to build confidence and capability in parenting and caregiving
- Advocate for whānau and connect them with health, education and community services
We Are Looking For Someone Who Has
We welcome applicants who are:
- A Registered Social Worker, Early Childhood Educator or trained teacher with relevant experience working with whānau
- Passionate about supporting tamariki and whānau to thrive
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Knowledge of kaupapa Māori approaches and Māori health models (or willingness to learn)
- Experience working with diverse whānau and communities
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- A full driver licence

Nurse Practitioner – General Practice

Are you a Nurse Practitioner who wants to work at the top of your scope, build meaningful relationships with whānau, and make a genuine difference in community health?
Whaiora is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our general medical practice for a full-time, permanent contract. This is a primary care role (not hospital-based) offering autonomy, continuity of care, and the opportunity to contribute to equity-focused, whānau-centred health outcomes.
ABOUT WHAIORA
Whaiora is a kaupapa Māori health provider committed to improving hauora for whānau through accessible, integrated, and culturally grounded services. Guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori models of health, we work alongside whānau, hapū, and iwi to deliver care that makes a real difference.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Working within a general medical practice / primary care setting, you will provide advanced clinical care to enrolled patients and whānau across the lifespan. The role focuses on continuity of care, long-term condition management, preventative health, and early intervention.
You will practise autonomously within your Nurse Practitioner scope while working closely with GPs, nurses, kaiāwhina, and wider community services.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Providing advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing in primary care
- Managing acute presentations and long-term conditions
- Delivering preventative care, screening, immunisations, and health promotion
- Supporting whānau-centred, culturally safe care grounded in kaupapa Māori values
- Contributing to improved access, equity, and population health outcomes
- Working collaboratively within a general practice team and wider health system
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Endorsed Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Current APC and prescriber status
- Experience in primary care, general practice, or community settings
- Strong clinical judgement, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to health equity and whānau-centred care
- Experience in Māori health is welcomed but not essential

About the Role: As our Tamariki Ora Nurse, you’ll partner with families, whānau, and caregivers to support children’s health and development from birth to three years, laying strong foundations for lifelong wellbeing. Your clinical expertise and cultural sensitivity will be key to empowering whānau and enhancing community health outcomes.
Who We’re Looking For: Essential
- Current Registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council
- Current Annual Practicing Certificate
- CPR and/or Advanced Life Support Certification
- Genuine motivation to improve local community health outcomes
- Understanding and practical application of Tikanga Māori
- Excellent communication, organisational, and computer skills
- Ability to manage workload independently and maintain confidentiality
- Full, clean driver’s licence
Desirable:
- Postgraduate Certificate in PHC Specialty Nursing Well Child/Tamariki Ora
- Experience in Primary Healthcare, MedTech systems, and Māori health models
- Strong local community networks
