The Whaiora Team
You will be working with an energetic, dedicated professional team that focusses on the wellbeing of the Wairarapa community.
Our low-cost access (VLCA) practice caters to 3400 patients. The team consists of two GP’s (one being telehealth), an Extended Care Paramedic, ten registered nurses, two health care assistants, physician’s assistant and administration support. Whaiora offer a wraparound service where you will have the support of professionals working as whānau ora navigators, quit smoking coaches, social & family start workers, & tamariki ora – well child nurses.
Location
Masterton is the largest town in Wairarapa region, with a population of 55,000. There is an abundance of amenities – sports club and schools. Explore one of the best children’s playgrounds in New Zealand or visit an excellent line up of cafes, restaurants, bars, vineyards, olive groves and shops. We are only short drive to amazing beaches and forest parks. If you want that big city fix then Wellington is only 1.5 hours away by rail or car.

Kaikōkiri – Clinical Administration Assistant

Whaiora is a kaupapa Māori health and social service provider delivering whānau-centred care to the Wairarapa community. Grounded in mātauranga Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and hauora models of wellbeing, our Very Low Cost Access Medical Centre provides culturally safe, accessible primary health care for our community.

Tēnei tūranga | About the role
We are seeking a Kaikōkiri – Clinical Administration Assistant to support our GPs, Nurse Practitioners and wider clinical team. This role is pivotal to the smooth operation of our kaupapa Māori medical centre and to ensuring whānau receive timely, respectful and well-coordinated care.
You will work closely with clinicians to manage clinical administration, patient communication, correspondence, recalls and follow-ups, while upholding high standards of confidentiality, cultural safety and professionalism. This is a role for someone who understands that administration in a kaupapa Māori setting is not just about systems, but about people, relationships and trust.
Ngā haepapa matua | Key responsibilities
- Provide high-quality clinical administration support to GPs and NPs
- Manage clinical inboxes, results, recalls, referrals and follow-up actions
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and whānau
- Support efficient clinical workflows and identify opportunities for improvement
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and data entry
- Uphold Whaiora policies, patient privacy, and health and safety requirements
- Work collaboratively with nurses, HCAs and the wider practice team
Ngā pūkenga me ngā āhuatanga | Skills and attributes for success
You will thrive in this role if you bring:
- An understanding of, or strong commitment to, kaupapa Māori values and whānau-centred care
- Respect for tikanga Māori and the ability to work effectively with Māori communities
- Experience in a health, clinical or patient-focused environment (primary care preferred)
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A calm, solutions-focused approach, even under pressure
- High levels of discretion, integrity and professionalism
- Confidence using patient management systems and Microsoft Office
- A willingness to learn, reflect and grow in cultural safety and practice
Medical knowledge or a health-related qualification (including those awaiting registration) is essential.

Registered Nurse – Immunising Our Tamariki
7 month fixed term – 32 hours per week | Community-based | Weekends required
Whaiora is seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (Whole of Life Vaccinator) to join our Immunising Our Tamariki programme, an initiative dedicated to improving immunisation coverage across our community.
This role is ideal for a nurse who is passionate about health equity, enjoys working out in the community, and is committed to removing barriers that prevent whānau from accessing care. You’ll be part of a dynamic team working to reach tamariki and families who haven’t been able to access traditional immunisation services, particularly in areas with historically low immunisation rates.
About the role
- 32 hours per week, with some weekend work required
- Deliver vaccinations in community settings, outreach clinics, and whānau homes
- Support whānau with education and guidance around immunisations
- Work collaboratively with other health providers and community partners
- Promote holistic wellbeing and equitable access to healthcare services
About you
You are a Registered Nurse with;
- Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- Authorised Vaccinator – Whole of Life
- Current CPR certification
- Experience in community health or outreach settings (preferred)
- A passion for working alongside Māori and Pacific whānau
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel across the Wairarapa region
